Things to do in Utsjoki
Utsjoki is Finland's northernmost municipality, well beyond Inari on the road towards Norway, strung along the Teno (Tana) river that draws anglers from across Europe for its salmon.
Reaching it from Rovaniemi is a full day's commitment: the drive covers roughly 330 km to Inari alone, then continues north for around another two hours, so budget the best part of eight to nine hours behind the wheel or a long-haul bus connection.
Shops, fuel stations and eating options thin out fast past Inari, and Utsjoki village itself has only a handful of them, so fill the tank and stock up before you leave. Salmon fishing on the Teno is tightly regulated, with permits and a defined season rather than year-round access, so check current rules before planning a trip around it.
