Things to do on Lake Inari
Lake Inari, roughly 330 km (4 hours) north of Rovaniemi, is one of Finland's largest lakes, scattered with thousands of islands, including Ukonkivi, a sacred Sámi site.
In summer, boat cruises out to Ukonkivi run from around 45 to 70 EUR per person, and the lake opens up for kayaking and fishing once the ice clears in late May or June.
In winter it freezes into a flat white expanse used for guided ice fishing and snowmobile safaris, and its open horizon makes it a popular spot for aurora watching on clear nights between late August and early April. For the lakeside village and the Siida museum, see their own pages: this one covers the water and the ice.
