Things to do at Auttiköngäs

Auttiköngäs is a set of rapids on the Auttijoki river, roughly 80 km from Rovaniemi, reached by car with no organised transfer laid on. A short marked trail runs alongside the water to a viewing point over the falls, walkable in under an hour, and there is no admission fee or gate: this is open access nature, not a ticketed attraction.

It draws most visitors in summer for the walk itself and again during ruska, late August to early October, when the surrounding birch and rowan turn colour along the banks.

In winter the path is rarely cleared, so footing over ice and drifted snow can be difficult and the rapids are largely frozen over, which makes the site far less rewarding outside the warmer months.
