Things to do at Lampivaara Amethyst Mine

Lampivaara, on the flank of Luosto fell, is the only amethyst mine in Europe open to visitors. There is no direct road to the shaft: from the car park you walk roughly 2 km uphill on a marked forest trail, around 30 to 45 minutes at an easy pace, gaining enough height that sturdy shoes matter even in summer.

Guided tours run at set times and take you underground with a guide, with the option to dig for your own amethyst to keep. Entry to the mine and the digging add-on are priced separately, typically in the 20 to 40 EUR per person range once both are combined. Opening is seasonal rather than year-round, so check current dates before planning a visit.

For where to sleep or eat, see the main Luosto page; this one covers the mine visit itself.
