Things to do in Nellim

Nellim sits on the eastern shore of Lake Inari, roughly 330 km and around 4 hours' drive from Rovaniemi, close to the Russian border and well past Saariselka's crowds.

It is built around a handful of small nature resorts rather than a village centre, so there are no shops, no petrol station and no restaurant outside your accommodation: bring supplies or book full board before you arrive.

Aurora hunting here means fewer coaches and smaller groups than Kakslauttanen, with lakeside or forest cabins used as viewing points rather than a busy commercial site. From January the frozen lake surface takes snowmobiles, huskies and ice fishing gear; a half-day guided activity typically runs 100 to 200 EUR per person, and winter temperatures fall to -15 to -30 degrees Celsius.
