Rovaniemi Airport: what to know before you land
Rovaniemi Airport (RVN) sits 10 km north of the city centre, close enough that a taxi takes roughly 15 minutes.
It is Finnish Lapland's main air gateway, and traffic swings hard with the season: from late November to early January it runs a dense charter schedule direct from the UK, Germany, France and other European markets, while summer service thins to a handful of domestic Finnair connections via Helsinki.
Book winter flights early, as the Christmas and aurora weeks sell out months ahead and prices climb accordingly. Bus route 8 links the terminal to the city centre in about 25 minutes for a few euros; a taxi costs roughly 30 to 40 EUR. Travellers without a winter flight can also reach Rovaniemi by VR overnight train from Helsinki, a journey of around 12 hours with the option of a car-carrying wagon.
