Things to do in Posio

Posio is a lakeside village around 170 km south-east of Rovaniemi, built along Lake Livojarvi rather than up in the fells further north. It works as an overnight base rather than a day trip: allow roughly two and a half hours on the road each way, more in winter snow, so most visitors sleep here before or after Riisitunturi National Park or Korouoma Canyon.

Accommodation runs from simple guesthouses to lakeside cabins, generally 60 to 120 EUR a night outside peak weeks. The village itself is quiet and rural, with a handful of viewpoints over wooded hills and the lake rather than any single big attraction, and a few cafes and a grocery shop cover basic needs.

Cross-country ski tracks run from the village in winter.
