Things to do in Keminmaa
Keminmaa sits just north of Kemi, about 115 km south of Rovaniemi (roughly 1 h 30 by car), and it is a residential and farming municipality rather than a tourist stop. The one reason to pull off the road is the old wooden church, built in 1786 and among the largest wooden churches in Finland, seating around 1,600.
It stands on a low rise by the Kemijoki river and is worth 20 to 30 minutes if you are already passing through Sea Lapland heading for Kemi's SnowCastle or the Sampo icebreaker. There is no visitor centre, no fixed opening hours to rely on without checking locally first, and no organised tourism infrastructure here: no cafés built around it, no guided tours booked in advance.
Treat Keminmaa as a five-minute detour and an architectural curiosity, not a destination to plan a day around.
