Things to do at Ounasvaara

Ounasvaara is the wooded hill facing Rovaniemi city centre across the Kemijoki river, roughly a 3 km drive or a 20-minute walk over the bridge, no tour bus required.

In winter it carries a small alpine slope with a handful of lifts plus groomed cross-country tracks lit for dark afternoons; in summer the same ground turns into hiking and mountain bike trails, with a lookout point over the town and, on a clear night from late August, a decent chance of catching the aurora without leaving the city limits.

This is a half-day outing, not a destination resort: day lift passes run roughly 25 to 35 EUR, well below the big Lapland ski areas 170 km or more to the west.
